The 2013 San Mateo County Fair returns June 8 – 16th this year!  Are you an annual Fairgoer or will this be your first time?  For nine days, spanning our 14-acre property the Fair will feature nationally known bands that include: Tower of Power, Starship Featuring Mickey Thomas, Three Dog Night, The Whispers and Morris Day & The Time, as well as award winning tribute bands, Aerorocks and Queen Nation.  All concerts begin at 7:30pm in Fiesta Hall.  Check out the San Mateo County Fair Website for all fair-related information and schedules:

Even if you think you know what’s going on at the Fair, here are some insider’s tips on many of the community-related enrichment events and activities the Fair has to offer.

A Season pass to the 2013 San Mateo County Fair is only $17 until June 7th!Buy a Fair Season Pass.

Season pass tickets are only $17 if purchased on or before June 7th.  Take advantage of discounted admission and enjoy all nine days of the Fair, including all concerts!  You can purchase online here, or at our office – 2495 S. Delaware Street in San Mateo.  Our office is open from 8am – 5pm Monday through Friday.

Healthy Fare at the 2013 San Mateo County Fair!  Enjoy Healthy Fare at the Fair. 

We all love the funnel cakes and corndogs, but sometimes we need something healthy inbetween the cotton candy and carnival rides… like fresh ceviche or Greek salad!  In collaboration with the San Mateo County Health System, Family Health Services Division, our food vendors will feature certain menu items that are healthier choices.  Just look for the signs and Healthy Fare logo throughout the fairgrounds where the food vendors are!  Here’s the list of Healthy Fare at the Fair:

Make it in America exhibit at the 2013 San Mateo County Fair June 15 - 16th in Expo HallMake It in America.  

The Make it in America plan is a bold initiative aimed at creating jobs today, driving economic recovery and moving America forward to get America working again by building the products of the future here at home.  When we Make it in America, American families will make it too.  Congresswoman Jackie Speier will officially open the Make It in America exhibit in Expo Hall on Saturday, June 15.  The exhibit runs from Saturday through Sunday, June 15-16 during Fair Hours.  The exhibit will feature local Bay Area companies that manufacture in the US. There will be a mixture of food samples and equipment displays and demonstrations.

Be the Street, a Water Pollution Prevention Program at the 2013 San Mateo County Fair, sustainable living Create a Greener Lifestyle.

Visit out Sustainable Living department and check out all of the nifty projects for reusing, recycling and repurposing.  The exhibits offer inspirational and practical ideas you can incorporate in your everyday living.  Stop by the San Mateo County Water Pollution Prevention Booth for giveaways and information about stormwater pollution prevention.   The SMCWPPP’s “Be the Street” campaign Flash Mob will be at the Fair on both Saturdays to entertain and surprise you!  Visit

Gearheads Rejoice! The Juggers Racing Team will display their custom-built drag racing cars in Expo Hall during the Fair.  San Mateo-based Juggers Racing Team is in its 60th year in existence, and was founded by nine car enthusiasts in 1953.  Over 22 cars and  historic memorabilia will be on display representing the team’s 144 members in its 60+ year history.  Cars for ever type of racing from road racing to drag racing will be there for you to see!

Nestled in our Fine Arts Galleria located in Expo Hall, our Literary Stage is the center for readings, writers workshops, author discussions and other freeform expressions of art.  There’s something for everyone here — from kid-friendly book readings to open mic poetry readings.  Come and see what’s on schedule for the Literary Stage and stay to browse through the amazing fine art pieces submitted by local artists.  Please find the full schedule of events here:

As a community event, the San Mateo County Fair offers two outdoor stages for locals to showcase their talent.  These stages are programmed with family-friendly performances ranging from heart-pumping, rock and roll, blues bands to stunning, spine-tingling, jazz dancers.  Be entertained throughout the entire day as we fill our stages with various acts from opening to closing of the Fair.  Come experience the amazing talent our community has among us.  The complete line-up is here:

Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame, San Mateo County FairPeninsula Sports Hall of Fame Banquet.

Former San Francisco Giants’ catcher and San Mateo native Randy Gomez joins nine others from San Mateo County who will be inducted into the Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame at a ceremony on June 11 in Cypress Hall.  The Hall of Fame honors Peninsulans who have had an impact on the local sports scene and, perhaps, beyond.  During its first 22 years, the Hall of Fame, located at the San Mateo County History Museum in Redwood City, has grown to include more than 220 people.  Presented by the San Mateo County/Silicon Valley Convention & Visitors Bureau, the San Mateo County Event Center and the San Mateo County Times/San Jose Mercury News, the induction dinner coincides with the 2013 San Mateo County Fair. 4H4-H Bake Sale.

The wonderful folks from the 4-H Club run a bake sale every day during the Fair.  Located in the Youth Exhibits building, the sale features a large assortment of home-made cakes, cookies and pies.  Water, coffee and cold beverages are also for sale.  All sale proceeds benefit the 4-H Club.  Cafe seating is first-come, first served.

Dear Martini, Chef Mia Chambers, Knife Skills Demonstration Culinary Arts Department 2013 San Mateo County Fair

Culinary Demonstrations.

In the center of it all, we’ve got the best culinary department in the state.  Baked goods, preserves, wine and beer will be on display throughout the week in addition to the open judging contests.  Also, catch one of the chef demonstrations! Chef Tyler Stone is returning this year with more spectacular dishes.  Our own Chef Bill Hutton is also returning, and will be demonstrating his chocolate mousse recipe and don’t miss Chef Mia Chambers and her knife skills demo!  The complete schedule for chefs demos are here:

Looking for a job?  Find it at the Fair!  Phase2Careers will host an Employment Connections Job Fair on Wednesday, June 12 from 12pm – 3:00pm in Expo Hall.  Bring copies of your current resume, or at the very least be prepared to fill out applications.  Over 40 employers and employment resources will be present at this recruitment event.  (Fair Admission on Wednesday June 12 is Free till 3pm!)  For more information, visit:

Digital Monkey School free game development workshops for kids 2013 San Mateo County FairFree Game Development Workshops for Kids by Digital Monkey.

Taught by Greg and Ola, founders of Digital Monkey School, Introduction to Game Development Class is a wonderful opportunity for students of all levels to get introcued to the art of computer games and to discover how they are made.  Students will learn how to model and paint teractive objects (custom prop sets) and custom terrain (blocks that the world is made of), and they will create a playable environment of their own (custom levels).  In this workshop, children will use their creativity and imagination, and will develop their three dimensional perception, cognitive skills and fine motor skills.  Students can be introduced to basics of Game Development in only one class or learn more on the subject and work on their project if they come more than once.  For more information, visit or check out the event page for the complete class schedule:

All week long in the Youth Exhibits building, you can find something to keep little hands busy.  From making a bug jar to sun visors, decorating birdhouses to cupcakes.  You can find the complete schedule of activities by visiting:

Watch and learn about the graceful art of Japanese flower arranging.  It’s more than simply putting flowers in a container!   ikebana is a disciplined art form in which nature and humanity are brought together.  Ikebana often emphasizes areas of the plant, such as its stems and leaves, and draws emphasis toward shape, line, form.  The demonstration will be on Sunday, June 9 at 2:00pm in the Floral Arts Hall.

In our Creative Home Arts department located in Expo Hall, classes and demonstrations are scheduled nearly every day throughout the Fair!  Come learn and watch wool spinning and quilting demonstrations or attend make-and-take classes on making coasters and flower buttons.  Classes on crocheting, knitting and quilting are also offered.  For the complete schedule, visit
