We are helping to shape the futures of tomorrow’s leaders!
The San Mateo Event Center is proud to have hosted the San Mateo Youth Foundation’s College Essay Writing Seminar.
The San Mateo Youth Foundation (SMYF), with support from Ann E. Campbell, County Superintendent of Schools, presented an extremely successful College Essay Writing Seminar on September 7, 2013 in Sequoia Hall.
After a presentation by the Executive Director, an SMYF alumna, fourteen SMYF alumni mentors worked in groups with the 150+ students that attended the seminar. The mentors shared their own personal stories and provided guidance on topics to use on the students’ personal statements for their college applications.
Students also gained knowledge around the University of California’s comprehensive review approach to admissions. Attendees included students from 6 of the 7 high schools in the San Mateo Union High School District as well as the only high school in the La Honda-Pescadero Unified School District.
We wish all of the students the best of luck with their college applications and hope this workshop provided beneficial and practical assistance and insight to the college application process!
